Change things up with this tangy, flavorful White BBQ Sauce. Also known as Alabama White BBQ Sauce, this is the perfect topping for your grilled chicken.
We are condiment lovers at my house. My kids go through ranch dressing like it’s going out of style, and you can usually find 3 different kinds of bbq sauce and 5 different kinds of mustard in our fridge at all times.
So needless to say, I’m always up for trying a new condiment. I can actually remember the first time I made this White BBQ Sauce, back in 2008. And it was love at first taste.
This is a tangy bbq sauce that goes great with chicken. I like it so much that I want to put it on everything!
What is White BBQ Sauce?
Are you wondering just what this white bbq sauce is? If it’s more than just the color?
This white sauce has some things in common with typical bbq sauces – like the addition of vinegar. But unlike other bbq sauces, it starts off with a mayonnaise base. Then it usually has vinegar, horseradish, and mustard added.
It is said that it was invented by Robert Gibson at Big Bob Gibson’s Bar-B-Q in Decatur, Alabama. Now you can find it all over bbq joints in the south.
How to Serve White BBQ Sauce
The traditional way to do it was to smoke a chicken and then dunk it in the sauce, allowing the chicken to soak up the sauce.
I like to either baste the chicken with the sauce, or use it as a dipping sauce once the chicken is served.
And while it is awesome with grilled chicken, I also think it would be perfect on pulled pork or any other grilled or smoked meat.

A mayo-based sauce would never fly at my house – sadly. The husband won’t eat anything mayo-y… no egg salad, potato salad, yadda yadda. However, I will certainly bookmark this for a girls night dinner – I find the idea of white bbq sauce too cool to resist!

Never heard of white BBQ sauce, either, but it sounds tangy and tasty, although I might leave out the horseradish. Not fond of the ‘heat’.
