This Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting would be perfect on these Eggless Chocolate Cupcakes!
It’s crazy to think that I’ve been a blogger longer than I’ve been a mom. Seriously – by blogging standards, I’m practically a grandma. But there are definitely some positives about having been around for so long. Like my archive of recipes.
Thie Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting actually appeared on the very first post I ever posted here on Taste and Tell. It was the frosting for a layer cake. I remember being so proud of that cake, but more than that, I remember falling in love with this frosting recipe when I made that cake. I’ve always been a cream cheese frosting fan, but this frosting is so light and smooth. And it’s super easy to make, as well. Regular cream cheese frosting just isn’t the same – this Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting is where it’s at!
I originally wrote this post for my 3rd blogging birthday. But I’ve decided that you really don’t need to wait for a birthday or for a reason to celebrate to make this frosting. This frosting is so good you’ll want it on the regular rotation!
Tips for Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting
- You’ll want to start with room temperature cream cheese. In order for the frosting to be smooth, you’ll want the cream cheese softened.
- When whipping your cream, make sure you have a clean bowl and clean beaters to ensure you get the best volume from your cream.
- To fold the cream into the cream cheese, make sure you start by stirring in 1/4 of the cream to start with. This will lighten up the batter, making it easier to fold the rest of the cream in.
Can Cream Cheese Frosting Sit Out?
When it comes to cream cheese, I like to play it safe. Some will say that cream cheese can stay out all day as long as your house doesn’t get too hot. But I like to err on the side of caution and I always refrigerate my cream cheese frosting. Just make sure you take it out of the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes before serving to bring it to room temperature.

Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting
Ingredients
- 1 (8-oz) package cream cheese softened
- 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- chocolate for grating
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the brown sugar and the vanilla and beat until completely smooth.
- In another bowl, beat the cream until stiff peaks form. Take about 1/4 of the cream and stir it into the cream cheese mixture to lighten it up. Add the remaining cream and fold in until completely combined.
- For cupcakes, transfer the frosting to a piping bag and pipe the frosting on the cupcakes as desired. Grate chocolate over the top, if desired.

Could you add some cocoa powder to this and make chocolate whipped cream cheese frosting. Would that taste good with the brown sugar?
MARI says
Will the frosting always be brownish due to the brown sugar or can we add food coloring to change its color?
Deborah says
It does have a bit of a brown tint to it. I haven’t tried coloring it, so I’m not sure how the coloring would take.
