Fan of antipasto? Topped with salami, roasted red peppers, olives and cheese, this Antipasto Pizza is inspired by the traditional Italian first course.
The first time my daughter had pizza, she was probably between 12 and 18 months old. She was at a birthday party, and immediately discovered her love of pizza. I think she ate 4 pieces of pizza that day. Since then, and with 2 more kids added to the family – pizza is one of the only foods that we can all always agree on. We are a pizza loving family.
And – I should mention – we are a homemade pizza loving family. We will still pick up a pizza every now and then, but I’m happy to say that my family still prefers homemade pizza. I will admit, though, that the kids aren’t as adventurous with toppings, and usually prefer pepperoni or cheese. But I think one of the great things about pizza night is that it’s easy to bake up a couple of basic pizzas for the kids, and then also make a pizza that is a little more “adult” – like this Antipasto Pizza.
I first made this pizza and posted about it back in 2012. And it has remained a favorite of mine since then. I am totally a salty-loving girl, and this pizza is all about the salty toppings. And I love its simplicity, as well. This pizza doesn’t have a sauce on it at all – it is a pizza recipe that proves that you don’t need a heavy sauce to make a good pizza. It is just simply cheese and toppings, and I wouldn’t change a thing!
What is Antipasto?
So you may be asking – what exactly is antipasto? Antipasto is an Italian first course that is usually made up of cured meats, various cheeses, and many other items that could include olives, anchovies, peppers, and artichoke hearts. All of the things that I love. You could seriously give me an antipasto platter for dinner and I’d be a happy girl. But throw all of that on top of a pizza? Yes, please!!
Ingredients in Antipasto Pizza
The first time I made this pizza, I pretty much made it with what I had on hand. So I used:
- Mozzarella
- Salami
- Roasted Red Peppers
- Green Olives
- Parmesan
You could also include:
- Marinated Mushrooms
- Artichoke Hearts
- Pepperoncini
- Other Cured Meats
How to make this Antipasto Pizza
Pizza doesn’t get much easier than this pizza!
- Preheat a pizza stone in the oven for at least 30 minutes. I turn my oven up between 450ºF and 500ºF. You want it really hot so the pizza will cook perfectly.
- Prepare your pizza dough. I love using homemade – this is my all-time favorite recipe. Roll the dough out into a circle.
- Since this pizza doesn’t have any sauce, you can just start layering on the toppings. Mozzarella, salami, roasted red peppers, olives, and Parmesan cheese.
- Transfer the pizza to the oven and bake until the crust is browned and the cheese is melted and bubbling – usually around 10-12 minutes, depending on how hot your oven gets and if you are using a pizza stone.
- Let the pizza cool slightly before cutting and serving!

One of my favorite things that I think really makes a pizza better is a pizza stone. They are inexpensive and last forever.
You can roll your dough out on cornmeal, but we prefer using parchment paper because it is easier to transfer into the oven.
And of course, you need a good pizza wheel for cutting that pizza once it’s finished!

Antipasto Pizza
Ingredients
- 1 lb pizza dough*
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup diced salami
- 1 cup roasted red peppers sliced
- 1/2 cup pitted and halved green olives I used olives filled with pimientos
- 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Place a pizza stone in the oven and preheat the oven to 450ºF. Let the oven preheat for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll the pizza dough out on a piece of floured parchment paper. (Alternately, you can roll out on a cornmeal dusted surface.) Roll the dough out into a large circle.
- Top the pizza evenly with the mozzarella cheese. Layer on the salami, roasted red peppers, and olives. Sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven until the dough is cooked and the cheese melted, about 10-12 minutes.
