Glazed doughnuts are lightly grilled then topped with cinnamon sugar coated grilled pears. Top the whole thing off with ice cream and caramel sauce for a decadent sundae recipe!
I am addicted to HGTV. I was actually reading a thing online the other day where people were complaining about the lack of actual home decorating/DIY shows on HGTV like they used to play, where now it is mostly real estate shows. Well, I can’t get enough of those real estate shows. Property Brothers, House Hunters, Fixer Upper, Flip or Flop – I think I’ve seen every episode of all of them.
The thing is, when it comes to things like homes and decorating and remodeling and staging – well, I’m no good at it. I want to watch other people do it. I just don’t want to do it myself. I’d rather pay someone to do it for me!! If you don’t believe me – well, we’ve lived in this house for almost a year now, and I still haven’t hung anything on the walls. It seriously looks like we just moved in. I’m just not good at the whole DIY thing. Which is why I think I prefer the “reality” shows over the DIY shows.
I may not get excited about getting creative in the house, but I do get excited about getting creative in the kitchen!! Which I think is why I was so in love with this sundae recipe. As I was flipping through my Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine, I got stuck on this recipe in the beginning of the magazine. Talk about the perfect fall dessert!!
First of all, you can’t go wrong with doughnuts. But then you grill the doughnut? And then grill some pears, bringing in that perfect fall element? But wait – that’s not all. Then you get ice cream and caramel sauce. Sinful. And dangerous.
I do have to forewarn that this has the potential to make a mess of your grill. I actually made this inside on a grill pan (I’m such a cheater!) and because of all of the sugar, it will burn easily and start to smoke. But nothing is grilled for very long, so it’s not too bad. And believe me – it’s totally worth the mess.
This sundae recipe would be perfect for family night, or for some early fall entertaining. It comes together in just minutes, and your plate will be clean in just minutes as well!

First of all, I’m OBSESSED with the Property Brothers. Like, I’m sure any day now, Jonathan is going to ask me to marry him.
Second, grilled donuts?! I think I love you!

I think I will probably never have a sundae without a donut base ever again! This is pure genius.
I actually love those real estate shows also but have no desire to watch any DIY/craft/home improvement shows!

Haha! I’m with you – I love watching other people do that kind of stuff but never truly have enough ambition to do it myself. I could probably convince myself to whip some of these sundaes up though because omg… brilliant!!! Looks amazing 🙂

I seriously LOVE Rachael Ray! I was at a baby shower recently where people were dogging on her, and I was so surprised. I just think she is amazing and has the funnest recipes that always work. This one, however, looks like something-I-have-to-make-asap-or-else-I-will-explode-with-anticipation. But really, holy smokes this looks amazing Deborah!

Yay for the RR love! I love that she gets people into the kitchen. I think we live in a generation where people don’t cook as much as they used to, like our parents or grandparents did. But I think that she gets people excited about food and makes recipes that anyone can make. I truly admire her for encouraging people to get cooking. 🙂
