Need an appetizer perfect for watching that sporting event or for a family get-together? This Hot Beef and Bean Dip takes your typical bean dip up a notch for an addicting, family friendly dip.
We are not die-hard sports fans at our house, but we do enjoy watching games every now and again. Especially when it comes to tournaments or bowls or finals. And I’ve said it before, but my biggest pull to turn on that big sporting event is more about the food than the actual game.
So I have found the perfect dip to make when you are getting together with friends or family to watch the game. This Hot Beef and Bean Dip is so much better than your typical bean dip. Don’t get me wrong – I love regular bean dip as much as the next person, but add in some beef and lots of cheese, and heat it up and serve it warm, and you have a dip that is addictive and delicious.
This is so good. Trust me on that one. It makes a ton of dip, and my husband and I got through it all embarrassingly fast. It may or may not have been dinner or lunch a time or two.
What is your favorite food to make and eat when you get together for a sporting game?
Ingredients in this Hot Beef and Bean Dip Recipe
- Ground Beef – I like to use something that is fairly lean for this recipe so that I don’t have to drain fat off. I’ll usually go around 90% so that it still has some flavor, but not as much fat.
- Cream Cheese – I haven’t tried using low fat, but it would probably work. This recipe is not low fat, though, so I usually just go all in.
- Taco Seasoning – You can use 1 1-oz package, or measure out 2 heaping tablespoons of taco seasoning.
- Refried Beans – I have always used traditional, but refried black beans might be good as well!
- Green Chiles – I have a love affair with green chiles, so I would never leave them out. But if you don’t care for them, feel free to leave them out.
- Cheddar Cheese and Pepper Jack Cheese – you could really do any mix of cheese you like here, but this is my favorite combination.
- Cilantro – a great fresh garnish at the end brings some freshness to the dip.
- Chips – don’t forget the chips for dipping! We usually go with tortilla chips, but the big Frito scoops are delicious as well.
How To Make Bean Dip
This recipe is really super easy – it should only take about 10 minutes of prep time.
- Start by cooking your ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks.
- While the ground beef is cooking, combine the cream cheese and taco seasoning in a bowl and beat them together. Stir in the beans and green chiles, followed by 3/4 of the cheese.
- Add the cooked ground beef (draining before, if necessary).
- Pour the dip into a baking dish. I like to use a cast iron pan, but a regular baking dish will work as well.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top, then bake until warmed through and the cheese is melted.
- Add the cilantro just before serving. Serve with chips for dipping.
