Bring Some Disney Magic to Your Kitchen!
We were at Disneyland last month, and it was hot.
Like sweat down your back all day long hot.
So of course, one of our must-have treats that day (well, every time, but especially in the heat of summer!) was a Dole Whip.
Usually we share treats (so that we can try all the things) but that day, all of us had our own. And it was the most glorious treat that day.
The good thing is that now that we are home, we don’t have to miss out on that dole whip. I know you can find these all over the place these days, not just at Disneyland, but if you’ve ever looked at the ingredient list, you’ll know that making it at home is so much better. Not only do you know exactly what is going into it, it only takes 3 ingredients and less than 10 minutes.
Now, I do have to mention that the actual Disney dole whip recipe is dairy-free. But since we are simplifying here and not adding all kinds of additives and unknown ingredients, we’re keeping it simple. So this version does have dairy, but it is just as delicious!
Ingredients
Pineapple Juice: I buy the dole pineapple juice in a can – it will make way more than this two servings, so it’s great for a crowd! Buy the small individual sized cans if you just want to make a few servings.
Ice Cream: You want a good quality vanilla ice cream – use one you already love.
Frozen Pineapple Chunks: You can use a fresh pineapple and freeze the chunks, or buy it at the grocery store. Either way, you want to make sure the pineapple is frozen.
How to Make a Copycat Dole Whip at Home
Simply combine all of the ingredients in a high powered blender in the order listed – juice first, then ice cream, then pineapple.
Blend until it is super creamy and smooth. You’ll want to stop a few times and stir and scrape down the sides of the blender. This will take about 3-4 minutes.
Tips and Tricks
Straight from the blender, the dole whip is pretty soft. You can eat it as is, but you won’t be able to swirl it like they do at the Disney parks. If you want to swirl it, transfer it to the freezer for about 30 minutes so it can firm up a bit.
To swirl, place the mixture in a piping bag fitted with a large star tip, like a 1M tip. Pipe into your serving bowls.
This recipe only makes 2 servings. You can double if your blender has the capacity, or blend in batches.
This is harder to make ahead of time, because it will freeze up pretty hard. You can always re-blend to soften it some, if desired.
Variations
Make it a Dole whip float by filling a cup halfway with pineapple juice then piping the Dole whip on top.
If you’ve had a Dole whip at the Disney parks, you know that while pineapple is the original, there are all kinds of different flavors. Mango is one of my personal favorites, so feel free to change up the pineapple for a different fruit!
