I love a good holiday recipe, especially when it involves snacking!
And this Bunny Bait is the perfect Easter treat – perfect for snacking. I like to make up a batch and my kids will just go crazy, but this mix is also perfect for packaging up and taking to friends or neighbors.
I love that this is super easy to make, and only takes a few minutes of hands on time. And it’s super versatile, so you can use what you have on hand!
Ingredients
Here is what I used for my mix:
- Popcorn: I used kettle corn, but regular popcorn would be great. If you really like the sweet/savory mix, you could even use buttered popcorn.
- Chex Cereal: I used what I had on hand, which was corn chex. But any variety of Chex will work.
- Pretzel Sticks: I prefer the pretzel sticks, but you could use mini pretzels, as well.
- Mini Marshmallows: I just used regular mini marshmallows, but the pastel colored ones would work great because of their colors.
- Cheerios: I used honey nut cheerios, but regular cheerios are great, too.
- Almond Bark: I prefer to use almond bark over white chocolate because it melts super easy and sets up really fast. And let’s be honest – you probably won’t notice the flavor difference between almond bark and white chocolate in this recipe.
- M&Ms: The pastel Easter m&ms work great. You could also use peanut m&ms or any other variety.
- Mini Eggs: My daughter begged me to add the mini eggs, and it was such a good idea!
How to Make Bunny Bait
- Combine all of the ingredients except for the almond bark and the candy.
- Melt the almond bark according to the package directions. Pour it over the mixture.
- Stir gently to combine, until the almond bark is coating everything. You don’t want to break up the popcorn or the cereal, so make sure you are gentle.
- Pour the mixture onto a piece of wax paper. (You can do this on the counter or on a baking sheet.) Sprinkle the candy over the top. Let it sit until the almond bark has set up, then break into chunks.
Substitutions
The great thing about this recipe is that it is easy to change things up. I used the ingredients above, but here are some other options.
Just keep in mind that no matter what you are using, you’ll need about 11 cups total. I used 1 cup of candy that I added on after, and 10 cups of other ingredients.
- Nuts (peanuts, cashews, or almonds would be delicious)
- Different cereals
- Chocolate Chips
- Mini crackers
- Different Easter candy
