I have never been a crafty person. I love to make food, and I love to try to make it look good, but that is not usually with intricate designs.
But when it comes to holidays, that’s usually when I try to pull out the more “crafty” ideas. But when I say I’m doing something crafty as a non-crafty person, that just means that just about anyone could pull this off.
These Halloween Deviled Eggs are perfect for the holiday. If you are having a pot luck or a party, you’ll want to make a batch of these to bring along. Not only are they delicious, but they are so festive, as well. The decorating does take a bit of time, but they are so simple that anyone can make them!
Ingredients
- Mayonnaise: I typically stick with regular mayonnaise, but low fat mayonnaise can also be used.
- Dijon: I like the flavor of Dijon mustard, but you could also use regular yellow mustard. If you use yellow mustard, I would cut it back to half the amount.
- Lemon Juice: This just adds some needed acidity.
- Hot Sauce: Use any hot sauce you like. This doesn’t really add heat, but it does add flavor.
- Worcestershire Sauce: This adds some flavor and depth.
- Salt: Just a little bit of salt goes a long way here.
- Eggs: You will need 18 hard boiled eggs, which will make 36 halves.
- Decorations: To decorate the eggs, you need green food coloring, black sesame seeds, olives, and roasted red peppers.
How to Make Halloween Deviled Eggs
STEP 1: Start by mixing together the mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and salt. Mix this until it is smooth.
STEP 2: Peel the eggs and cut them in half horizontally. Remove the yolks and place the eggs on a cutting board or tray.
STEP 3: Take the yolks and add them to the bowl with the mayonnaise mixture.
STEP 4: Using a fork or a potato masher, mash the yolks into the mixture. You can make this as smooth or chunky as you’d like.
For the Green Eggs:
Take one third of the filling and place it in a bowl. Use food coloring to color it green. Fill one third of the eggs (12 egg halves) with the green yolk filling. Sprinkle the black sesame seeds over the top.
For the Spider Eggs:
Take one half of the remaining filling and fill another 12 egg halves. Cut an olive in half lengthwise and place one half, cut side down, in the middle of an egg. Cut another olive into thin strips, and place 8 on the egg as the spider legs, 4 on each side.
For the Deviled Eyeballs:
Fill the remaining eggs with the remaining yolk filling. To make the eyeballs, cut thin strips of the roasted red peppers and place a few on each egg. Cut an olive horizontally into slices, and place an olive slice in the middle for the iris.
Tips and Tricks
You can do all of one of the designs, or do your favorite two. I like having an assortment.
These Halloween deviled eggs can be made up to 6 hours in advance. Store in a covered container in the refrigerator.
Leftovers can also be refrigerated. They will start to dry out, and sometimes the olives or red peppers will bleed a little, but they still taste great as leftovers.
