Ingredients
- Bacon: I like to slice my bacon and then cook it, but you can also cook the full pieces of bacon and then crumble or chop them.
- Cauliflower and Broccoli: The weights in the recipe below are for the chopped florets for both the cauliflower and the broccoli. The weights before chopping will differ, depending on how big the stalks are. I had about 1.5 pounds of each before chopping. That being said, you don’t have to have the amounts for this exact, either.
- Sunflower Seeds: You can sub in another nut, like pecans, or you can simply keep it nut free.
- Red Onion: I like to use red onion when I’m having it raw, but you could also use a sweet onion or green onions.
- Cheese: This is another ingredient that is easy to change up. I used cheddar cheese, but any cheese that you love should work. I think a colby jack or mozzarella would be delicious!
- Mayonnaise: Full fat will work the best, but reduced fat will work, as well.
- Vinegar: I love red wine vinegar in this salad, but you can use another vinegar that you like.
- Sugar: The sugar does add a bit of sweetness, but this is not a sweet salad at all. I feel like it just creates a great balance of flavors.
How to Make Broccoli Cauliflower Salad
Cook your bacon and set is aside. You’ll want it in small, bite-sized pieces.
In a large bowl, combine all of your salad ingredients – the broccoli, cauliflower, red onion, bacon, sunflower seeds, and cheese. Stir this all together to combine it.
In another bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, vinegar, and sugar.
Pour the dressing over the salad and stir until everything is coated with the dressing.
Tips and Tricks
This salad is best when it has had time to chill in the refrigerator. You can serve it right after making it, but I like to wait at least 2 hours. But you can also make it a day in advance.
Feel free to get creative – my regular broccoli salad recipe has apples and raisins it. I think they’d be great in this one if you want a little extra sweetness.
Make sure your broccoli and cauliflower are cut into small pieces. That way it’s easier to get a bite with everything at the same time.

Yes – they are raw.

This salad tastes so good!! And it is easy! I omitted the bacon because I didn’t have any. And I omitted the cheddar cheese because it didn’t seem necessary.
