If you’ve had the Red Lobster biscuits, you’ll know just how good and addictive they are.
The good thing, though, is that you don’t have to go out to have them. They can be on your table in as little as 30 minutes!
These biscuits are just as buttery and garlicky and herby as the restaurant favorite. You’ll want to whip up a batch next time you are serving a big bowl of soup or pasta.
Ingredients
- Baking Mix: Baking mix is a shortcut mix, such as Bisquick. If you don’t have any of this on hand, don’t worry – I’ve got a quick recipe for you below!
- Cheese: You’ll want to add cheddar cheese for the closest copycat. I suggest using freshly grated cheddar cheese.
- Buttermilk: The buttermilk will make these biscuits nice and tender. You can also make a buttermilk substitute if you don’t have any on hand.
- Butter: I like to use unsalted butter.
- Seasonings: For the seasonings, you’ll make a mix of garlic powder, Old Bay seasoning, dried parsley, onion powder, and salt.
How to Make Red Lobster Cheddar Biscuits
- In a bowl, mix together the baking mix, cheese, buttermilk, some of the Old Bay seasoning, as well as some of the garlic powder.
- Mix this all together until combined. Don’t overmix – just until all of the dry pieces are incorporated.
- Use a scoop to scoop the dough onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Transfer the biscuits to the oven and bake them until they are golden brown.
- While the biscuits are baking, combine the melted butter with the remaining Old Bay seasoning and garlic powder, as well as the parsley, onion powder, and salt. Brush this mixture over the hot biscuits right as they come out of the oven.
Don’t have Bisquick? Here is What to Substitute
If you don’t keep a box of baking mix on hand, don’t despair! You can’t replace it with straight flour because the mix also contains a rising agent as well as fat and salt. So for the 4 cups of baking mix, here is what you would use instead:
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons shortening or butter, cut into small pieces
Combine all of the ingredients in a food processor and pulse until the shortening or butter is evenly dispersed in the mixture. Alternately, mix together the flour, baking powder and salt and then cut the shortening or butter in with a fork or a pastry cutter.
If you use butter, you need to use this mixture right away, or refrigerate until ready to use.
Storage Instructions
Leftovers:
If you happen to have leftover biscuits, you’ll want to cover them completely with foil or place them in a ziplock bag.
If left at room temperature, you’ll want want to eat them within a day or two. Place them in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Either way, you might want to heat them slightly before serving for the best result.
Freezing:
Want to save them even longer? Here is how to freeze these biscuits.
To freeze before baking: Complete the process through step 2. Instead of baking the biscuits, transfer the baking sheet to the freezer to allow the unbaked dough to freeze. Once frozen completely, take the biscuits and place them in a freezer bag. When ready to bake the biscuits, you can bake the from frozen, but they will take a few extra minutes.
To freeze after baking: Wrap the biscuits lightly with foil, then place in a freezer bag. When ready to serve, reheat in the microwave for 20-30 seconds. To reheat in a conventional oven, keep the biscuits lightly wrapped in foil and bake in a 300ºF oven for about 20 minutes.
