The Best Cheesy Garlic Bread
My husband isn’t a big bread eater. In fact, if we are out to eat, you can usually just stick the bread basket in front of me, because I could eat the whole thing while my husband will usually pass on it.
But he loved this bread, and definitely ate his fair share of it. That says a lot!
It is supposedly a knock off from the cheesy bread they serve at Black Angus. I’ve never been to Black Angus before, so I can’t compare them, but I do know I’m a fan of this bread!
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make this Cheesy Garlic Bread:
- Cheese: I use a mix of mozzarella and monterey jack cheeses. You could change this up, but you’ll want to use a cheese that melts easily. Gruyere, provolone or gouda would be good choices. You could use cheddar, but it does tend to be a bit oily.
- Mayonnaise: This is the secret ingredient! It brings everything together and creates this creamy topping that is irresistible. The garlic bread doesn’t taste like mayonnaise, but you will find out that the mayonnaise is what makes this bread stand out from the others.
- Butter: I use unsalted butter, but you could use salted butter as well.
- Garlic: You can add more or less garlic, depending on how much garlic flavor you like.
- French Bread: This is the bread that you find at the grocery store, many times by the checkout.
- Green Onions: I always like to add on a bit of freshness, and I do love the onion flavor.
How to Make Cheesy Garlic Bread
This recipe is super easy to make!
- Stir together the topping – the cheese, the mayonnaise, the butter and the garlic.
- Cut the bread in half horizontally.
- Spread the topping on the cut sides of the bread.
- Bake the bread until heated through and the cheese is melted, then turn it to the broiler. Watch it closely so that it doesn’t burn!
- Top with green onions, then slice and serve!

Oh. My. Gosh. This bread looks fantastic! Better than fantastic! I neeeeed to eat this! How awful that your hubby got so ill! I’ve heard of people getting sick from various stuff on the rind, but not the flesh itself. I’m paranoid, so I wash every melon regardless of type before cutting. Poor guy.
Mama Goose says
Oh good God, I just gained 10 pounds looking at the pictures!!
I’m like you Deborah: I’ll eat the whole basket!
Hope DH isn’t allergic to H20Melon! Summer just ain’t right without it.
Kristen says
Hmmmmm – I don’t know about the watermelon allergy. I know that certain medications cause problems with grapefruit and citrus, but not sure about watermelon.
Either way, wish I was married to a non-bread eater. The more for me 🙂
Emiline says
I could LIVE on cheesy garlic bread. Yep, I could make a meal out of it.
That’s so weird about your husband and the watermelon. I have a friend that developed an allergy from mango. I guess you melon-eatin’ days are over.
Grace says
that’s so unfortunate! i love watermelon and think it’s the perfect summer treat, so i really feel bad for your hubby.
oh, and two of the nicest things you can do to bread are add cheese and add garlic. lovely. 🙂
Stef says
I certainly hope that it wasn’t an allergy. I have a weird reaction to kiwi, but I’ve never heard of a problem with watermelon. The bread makes me want to bite the screen!

I’m wondering buying watermelons from a different supplier would help…could be a bad crop from one farm…
