This Chicken in Caper Cream Sauce is an easy but elegant dinner recipe. Boneless chicken breasts are cooked in a skillet and served with a creamy caper cream sauce.

The days are long, but the years are short. Is that the way the saying goes? I know this is intended to be about children (and this is totally true!) but I think it applies to so many other parts of life as well. Sometimes, I think back to my beginning years of blogging, and it doesn’t seem like that long ago. But then I look at the calendar, and I’m amazed at how much time has gone by.
This Chicken in Caper Cream Sauce is a reminder to me of just how fast the years have gone by. I originally posted this recipe along with these cookies back in 2007. It’s amazing to think that it’s been over 10 years. Back then, I didn’t have any kids, and I actually remember that meal that I made. And this recipe has remained a favorite since.
I’m bringing this recipe current because I think it deserves a new chance in the spotlight. This is an elegant dinner that would be perfect for a date night in, or even great for a Sunday supper. I could drink the creamy caper sauce, which is the highlight of this recipe.
And to top it all off, this Chicken in Caper Cream Sauce can be on the table in under 30 minutes. This is definitely a winning chicken dinner!

Chicken in Caper Cream Sauce
Ingredients
- 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1 teaspoon lemon pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 3 tablespoons capers drained and rinsed
Instructions
- If the chicken breasts are thick, pound them to an even thickness or cut them open horizontally to form thinner, even chicken breasts.
- In a small bowl, combine the lemon pepper, salt, dill and garlic powder. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over both sides of the chicken breasts.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the chicken and cook until browned and cooked through, flipping once, 5-7 minutes on each side. Once cooked, remove to a plate and cover with foil to keep warm.
- Pour the cream into the same skillet, and whisk, scraping off the browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Cook until the mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. Stir in the capers. (The sauce will thicken a bit more as it cools.)
- Serve the chicken topped with the cream sauce.

I loved it! We’re in lockdown so I had to cook with what I had, so I used fresh dill, added a small amount of shallot and a wee bit of chicken broth. I’ll probably make this all the time! It comes together so quickly and is so easy to make!

This recipe has very quickly become my go-to meal, even in the middle of a busy work week. Paired with some simple white rice and steamed broccoli, it’s hard to go wrong! This sauce is boss.

Great Recipe, easy and quick. Don’t skip the dill, it makes the dish. I served this with angle hair pasta cooked with fresh tomatoes and garlic

This was alright. Reduce the salt by half though. Way too salty. All of my my family complained it was too salty.

So much flavor! I was a little skeptical of the dill. But I was soooo wrong!!!! The seasonings make the dish! I did sautee a few mushrooms with garlic (in a couple Pat’s of butter) to add under the sauce on top of the chicken. This dish is a huge hit!

Have you ever frozen this? A friend LOVES this meal and is about to have a baby. Thinking of possible freezer meals and wondering if it reheats well from frozen. Thanks!
