If you are a fan of cinnamon rolls, this syrup brings a cinnamon roll flavor to your breakfast favorites. Smooth, creamy, and sweet, this is a syrup you’ll fall in love with!
Ingredients
- Butter: I use unsalted butter. If you want a little bit of saltiness, feel free to use salted butter.
- Cream: You want to use heavy whipping cream. It won’t thicken up like it is supposed to if you use anything lighter.
- Brown Sugar: This is the sweetener for the syrup. I use light brown sugar.
- Cinnamon: For the best flavor, make sure your cinnamon is not old. A little bit should go a long way.
- Vanilla: I like to add a bit of vanilla once the syrup comes off the heat for extra flavor.
How to Make Cinnamon Syrup
STEP 1: Melt the butter in a medium sauce pan over medium heat.
STEP 2: Once the butter is melted, add the cream, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Whisk it all to combine, then continue to whisk as it comes to a boil. Boil for 5-7 minutes, or until it starts to thicken, whisking the whole time.
STEP 3: Turn off the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract.
STEP 4: Transfer the cinnamon syrup to a container. I will usually use a jar or you can use a syrup dispenser. Serve the syrup warm.
Tips and Tricks
- The longer you cook the syrup, the thicker it will get. It will also get thicker as it cools, so keep that in mind.
- Any leftovers need to be refrigerated. It will solidify in the refrigerator, but can be heated up again for serving.
- You get 1 cup of syrup from this recipe, which is usually pretty perfect for my family of 5 for a meal. But feel free to double the recipe if you need to serve more people. Just make sure to use a large enough pan, as the syrup will boil.
