Delicious and refreshing, these Fresh Fruit Batidos are a popular drink made in Latin America. This is perfect for cooling down on a hot day!

I remember back when I first made this sweet, cold, drink. I originally found the recipe in a Food Network cookbook. It was a hot summer day, and this seemed so refreshing.
And I was right! This really is the perfect summertime drink/dessert.
What is a Batido?
One thing is for sure – a batido can be many different things, depending on where it is coming from. Originating in Latin America, there seem to be endless variations. In some places, it is a drink similar to a smoothie, with just fruit, water or milk, and sometimes a sweetener. In other places, they are made with sweetened condensed milk.
Or there is this version, which is a lot more like a milkshake.
Now, I can’t tell you which version is best, but I can tell you that this version is delicious. I’m not someone who usually gravitates towards milkshakes, but I don’t know if I could get tired of this mango batido!
Ingredient List
- Mango Sorbet: This is actually pretty easy to find. My regular grocery store had several different brands available.
- Ice Cream: Use a vanilla ice cream that you really like.
- Mango: For the best flavor, make sure the mango is nice and ripe.
- Milk: I used 2% because that is what we keep on hand. Any milk should work, though. Some other suggestions are coconut milk or almond milk.
- Honey: This is pretty sweet on its own, so I don’t think you necessarily need the honey for sweetness. But it does bring in a great flavor. Feel free to leave it out, if desired, though.
How to Make Fruit Batido
This is the perfect recipe for when you want something sweet, cold, and easy! It only takes minutes to a fresh, delicious drinkl
- Combine all of the ingredients in a blender.
- Blend until smooth.
- If desired, you can garnish with more fresh fruit and a mint sprig.
Variations
While I do love the mango flavor here, you can switch things up and use a different fruit. Here are a few fruits that would work well:
- Cantaloupe
- Peaches
- Strawberries
- Pineapple
- Papaya
Tips and Tricks
You want a fresh mango for this for the best flavor. Wondering how to tell if a mango is ripe? Press it very gently – if it gives, the mango should be good to go. (Similar to peaches or an avocado.) If it is still hard, let it ripen on the countertop for a couple of days.
This batido recipe really is best when you make it right before serving. It only takes a few minutes to blend everything together. You could dice the mango earlier, though.
I have not tried this with frozen mango – only fresh. It should work with frozen, but the end produce will be thicker than if you use fresh mango.

100 degrees? Ugh! Definitely not the time to turn on the oven. It's the time to hover in the frozen foods aisle at the grocery store, taking your time choosing which sorbet to buy for this beautiful dessert.
Hope your AC gets fixed soon!

Sounds like something I could have used last week when the temps were near the hundreds. Today, not so hot. But that will probably change so I'll be needing this in the next few weeks I'm sure!

I'd never heard of batidos before. These sound absolutely delicious! I've obviously been missing out.
And so sorry about your air conditioning. Wish you could send some of that heat here. Cold and rainy in London–bah! K x
