Fudge has always reminded me of the holidays. My mom often makes it for Christmas, and a piece always takes me to that happy time of year.
It’s a good thing that this fudge is super easy. That’s why I call it Easy Fudge!
Only a few ingredients and a few minutes of hands on time. You do have to wait for it to set up, but believe me – it’s worth it!
Ingredients
- Chocolate Chips: Not only do chocolate chips make this recipe easy, but it makes it less expensive than using a bar chocolate. I like to go for semi-sweet, although you could use dark chocolate chips if you like them better.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk: The sweetened condensed milk not only gives the fudge its sweetness, but it also contributes to the texture and creaminess of the fudge.
- Butter: I normally always use unsalted butter, but salted butter would work really well in this recipe. The bit of salt helps to balance the flavors.
- Vanilla Extract: I like to use a real vanilla extract.
- Pecans: My kids will fight me on this, but I am a believer that this fudge needs nuts. Pecans are my favorite. You can, of course, leave the nuts out if you like, but I like the mixture of textures.
How to Make Easy Fudge
- Combine the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter in a saucepan.
- Cook, stirring the whole time, until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Add most of the pecans and stir to combine.
- Pour the mixture into a loaf pan that is buttered or lined with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle the remaining pecans on top and refrigerate the fudge until it has set up.
Make Ahead and Storage Instructions
The beautiful thing about this fudge is that it lasts quite awhile, so it is a great recipe to make ahead of time, if needed.
You’ll want to store the fudge in an airtight container. I like to store it at room temperature, because I feel like it dries out if stored in the refrigerator. That being said, it will be good for up to 2 weeks at room temperature but up to a month if stored in the refrigerator.
If needed, you can also freeze this fudge for 3-4 months. Just make sure it is wrapped tightly and thaw in the refrigerator when you are ready for it.
Make It Your Own
This recipe is actually really quite versatile. Make changes to make it your own!
Change up the chocolate – use dark chocolate or white chocolate.
Add a flavoring – swap out the vanilla extract for peppermint extract or orange extract.
Nuts or no nuts – Like I said, I like the nuts. You could also use walnuts or pistachios. Or leave the nuts out completely.
Candy! – Sprinkle M&Ms or another favorite candy over the top. Or add sprinkles to make it extra fun.
