It’s crazy to think back to when I first started blogging. It was about a million years ago, but I was kinda-newly married with no kids. So my kids have all grown up with the blog. Knowing pictures need to be taken and recipes need to be tested. And that sometimes, mom makes cupcakes out of the blue on a random Wednesday afternoon. Not because she’s craving cupcakes (but she is always craving cupcakes), but for “the blog”.
And at the same time, they have grown up being introduced to so many different foods. Different recipes, different cuisines. I’m pretty sure they never want me to stop blogging. 🙂
Today, I’m celebrating a blogging friend who is starting her own journey as a blogging mother. I’m sure all of you know Sally from Sally’s Baking Addiction – and that she is expecting her first child soon. So it’s time to celebrate! She has such a fun road ahead of her, and I’m so excited for her! I’ve know Sally online for quite awhile now, and finally got to meet her in real life a few months ago, and she is as sweet as the recipes on her blog. She is going to make a fabulous mother, and I couldn’t be more excited for her.
To celebrate, some of her blogging friends have gotten together to make some fun recipes in honor of Sally and her new baby. (Make sure you check out the other links at the bottom of this post!) And since Sally is the sprinkles queen, we have a sprinkles theme going on! I will never turn down a funfetti recipe (these Homemade Funfetti Donuts are a fav!). Cupcakes are always a great way to celebrate, but as much as I love funfetti cake, I decided to go sprinkle crazy on the frosting. And not just by adding sprinkles to the top of the frosting, but actually turning the frosting into funfetti frosting. This is a simple way to dress up your buttercream to bring it a little fun and festivity.
Biggest congratulations to Sally and her upcoming bundle of joy. I’m super excited to see her as a mother. It is such a fun road that she has ahead of her!
Tips and Tricks
I’m a buttercream lover, so I made my favorite basic buttercream and simply added the sprinkles into the buttercream. I added a whole 2/3 cup to the frosting. I did add it in 2 batches, because I find that adding them all at the same time makes it so sprinkles get stuck to the bottom of the bowl, which makes you beat the frosting longer, leading to lots of broken sprinkles. So unless you are stirring them in by hand, I recommend adding them in two batches.
This Funfetti Frosting is not only a great topping for cupcakes, but you could also use it to frost a cake. Just imagine a funfetti cake topped with this funfetti frosting. Now that would be a celebration!!

Funfetti Frosting
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter at room temperature
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1-2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 2/3 cup jimmies or sprinkles
Instructions
- Place the butter in a large bowl (or the bowl of a stand mixer). Beat the butter until light and fluffy, several minutes.
- Slowly start adding in the powdered sugar, about 1 cup at a time.
- Beat in the vanilla. Add enough cream to bring the frosting to your desired consistency.
- Add half of the sprinkles into the frosting and beat just until combined. Add the second half of the sprinkles and beat again just to combine. (I add them in 2 batches to avoid over beating and breaking up the sprinkles. You can add them all in at the same time and stir them in by hand so that you are more gentle, if desired.)

Ok, I am cracking up at “for the blog.” My coworkers still ask (after 3 years of blogging) “what’s the occasion?” It’s 97% of the time FOR THE BLOG, PEOPLE. Nothing has changed!
