Ginger and lime come together in this satisfying and refreshing Ginger Limeade. It’s not too sweet, and perfectly refreshing.
There is nothing more refreshing than a delicious, refreshing citrus drink! If you want even more than this Ginger Limeade, try this Cucumber Limeade or this Mint and Basil Lemonade.
This recipe actually has a fun history behind it. I first started making it when I was pregnant with my third child. I had some lingering sickness – not full on morning sickness, but just an overall feeling of not feeling great.
And what is good for nausea? Ginger!
I’m a ginger fan anyway, but if ginger is needed, this is definitely a delicious way to take it in. I honestly can’t remember if it helped or not, but I sure did enjoy my ginger limeade!
Ingredients
- Ginger: You need fresh ginger for this recipe. Ground ginger will not work the same.
- Water: This is to make the simple syrup. Just regular water is all you need.
- Sugar: This is to sweeten the simple syrup.
- Lime Juice: Again, you’ll want fresh lime juice, not bottled.
- Seltzer Water: I like to make this a sparkling drink, but you could always sub in regular water for a flat version. Or a lemon-lime soda for a sweeter version.
How to Make Ginger Limeade
PHOTO 1: Start by preparing your ginger. Peel the ginger, then cut it into coins.
PHOTO 2: Combine the water and the sugar in a small sauce pan. Then add your ginger coins. Bring this to a boil, then reduce the heat until the sugar is melted. This doesn’t take long.
PHOTO 3: Once the sugar is dissolved, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the lime juice. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes to steep.
PHOTO 4: Pour the liquid through a strainer into a jar or container. You can discard the ginger. Your simple syrup now just needs to chill, so place it in the refrigerator.
PHOTO 5: When you are ready to make your drink, place some ice in a glass, then add about 4 tablespoons of the simple syrup. You can add more or less, depending on how strong you want it.
PHOTO 6: Fill the rest of the glass with the seltzer water – about 7 ounces. Give it all a gentle stir, then serve!
Tips and Tricks
The simple syrup for the ginger limeade is a great thing to make ahead and keep on hand. It will last 2-4 weeks if stored in the refrigerator, so it’s easy to whip up a drink whenever the craving hits!
To really intensify the ginger flavor, you can leave a few of the ginger coins in with the simple syrup. But only do this if you really want the ginger to come through.
You should have enough simple syrup to make 5 drinks if you use 4 tablespoons of the syrup for each drink. You can easily double or triple this recipe, though.

First great photos! I always have a hard time taking pictures of drinks in glasses. Second, boo to all the morning sickness. Feeling nauseous and having an upset stomach is no fun anytime. This drink looks like a great drink to have any time there is tummy troubles or just when it is hot outside! And last I love the idea of documenting your pregnancy each week with a corresponding photo and blurb about it!
