Bean, Sausage and Beef Burrito Recipe
I feel like at the beginning of every new year, my big goal is to cook more at home. I always end the year so badly – leaning on convenience food or takeout because the holidays can get so hectic.
So here we are, back at the beginning of a year, with a renewed determination to make things right again. So I’m making my menu, doing my shopping, and getting back into the kitchen.
If you are like me, you need to put this Bean, Sausage and Beef Burrito Recipe on your menu plan. You can never go wrong with a burrito, and these are packed with so much goodness. Not only are they a great beef burrito, but they also have Italian sausage and beans, so they are filling and full of flavor.
What Goes in a Beef Burrito?
I like to turn this into more of a burrito supreme. So these are some fillings you can put inside your burrito.
- chopped lettuce
- chopped tomato
- sliced avocados
- sour cream
- cilantro
- shredded cheese
How Do You Make a Beef Burrito?
One of the things I love about this recipe is that it can be done in just 35 minutes. I love a quick and easy weeknight dinner recipe! Here is how I make them.
- Start by cooking the sausage, beef and onion together in a large skillet. I use a wooden spatula to break up the meat as it cooks.
- Once the meat is cooked and the onion is soft, you can drain the fat off of the meat if you want. To do this, I usually just slightly tip the skillet and use a spoon to collect the grease and place it in a mug to discard.
- Add the beans, tomatoes, chili powder and salt and stir them all together. Bring the mixture to a boil, then let it cook for about 5 minutes to thicken up. You don’t want it to be super watery or your burritos will be soggy.
- I like to microwave my tortillas for about 30 seconds to make them more pliable and easier to roll.
- Place 1/4 of the cheese down the center of the tortilla, then add 1/4 of the meat mixture. Top with your desired toppings.
- Fold in the sides of the burrito (the short ends over the tips of the filling) then wrap the burrito tightly.
- Serve!
