It doesn’t get more fun than these cute snowmen that are a great way to celebrate winter! Rolls are lightly flavored with orange, then stacked into snowmen that get a creamy, orange glaze. A few decorations make these Orange Snowman Rolls a fun, and delicious, activity the whole family will love.
The holiday season is in full swing, and I couldn’t be more excited. As my kids get a little older, it just gets more and more fun, as we try to cram in every single holiday celebration that we can.
One of our favorite things to do is holiday baking together. And while we are all for the traditional sugar cookies and gingerbread houses, this year, I decided to switch things up.
I saw a version of these snowman rolls on Breadworld.com, and the first thought I had come to my mind was how fun it would be to turn the snowman that they had made up into a standing snowman. My daughter was looking over my shoulder as I was looking at the snowmen online, and she got so excited. Before I knew it, these Orange Snowman Rolls turned into a family affair!
While some people are intimidated by working with yeast, it’s really not something be scared of. I made these snowmen with Fleishmann’s® RapidRise™ Yeast, which is my go-to yeast. The dough comes together easily with a stand mixer, but if you don’t have one, you can make these by hand. You’ll just need to use a little muscle to stir it all together! I added a bit of orange zest to the dough to give it a sweet hint, and then later, you can add some of the fresh orange juice to the glaze. While preparing these rolls does take a little bit of time, the great thing is that you can cut it into 2 days – make the rolls and then refrigerate them until you are ready to bake them off and then decorate them.
To make these festive and perfect for winter, of course we had to do some decorating. You can mix up the candy and decorations. I just walked down the candy aisle at the grocery store and picked up a few things that I thought would be fun. My kids were especially smitten by the sour worms since they love them so much.
My kids could not wait for their snowman rolls. They thought these were so much fun. And I was excited, because not only are they cute, but they were pretty darn tasty, as well!!
These would be the perfect excuse to bake a little extra to give to friends and neighbors, too. The holidays are all about sharing, and these Orange Snowman Rolls are a fun way to share!

Orange Snowman Rolls
Ingredients
Dough:
- 4 1/2 - 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 envelopes Fleischmann’s® RapidRise™ Yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup butter cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated orange zest
Glaze:
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons orange juice
- 3-4 tablespoons milk
Decorations:
- Various decorations such as pretzel sticks, chocolate chips, chocolate cookies, candy worms, etc.
Instructions
- Combine the flour, sugar, yeast and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer. Combine the milk, water and butter and heat until very warm (120º - 130ºF). Add the liquids to the flour mixture. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes, scraping down the bowl occasionally. Add the eggs, orange zest and one more cup of flour. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Continue to add flour, a few tablespoons at a time, until you have a stiff dough. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 to 24 hours.
- Remove the dough from the refrigerator and divide into 12 equally sized pieces. Divide each piece into 1 small, 1 medium and 1 large piece and roll into balls. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with a silpat, parchment, or sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Try to set the balls 2 inches apart. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and set in a warm place to rise until doubled in size, 35-45 minutes.
- Heat the oven to 375ºF. Bake the dough for about 15 minutes, until golden brown, rotating the pans halfway through. Remove and allow the rolls to cool completely.
- In a small bowl, combine the powdered sugar, orange juice and 3 tablespoons of the milk. Mix until smooth. Add more milk, if necessary, for a drizzling consistency.
- To make the snowmen, using a skewer or toothpicks, stack 3 of the balls, the largest on the bottom, medium in the middle and the smallest on the top. **If serving these to kids, make sure you remove the toothpicks or skewers before serving to young children.** Place on a piece of parchment paper and drizzle with the glaze. If necessary, use a small offset spatula to evenly coat the snowmen. While the glaze is still wet, decorate the snowmen with candy. Let the snowmen sit until set.

These are seriously ADORABLE! And personally, I’d much rather decorate these guys than a gingerbread house that’s not nearly as edible 🙂

I use Fleischmann’s all the time to make focaccia, but your snowman are much cuter! HA. Thinking this would be a cute project to do with the kids this weekend. Fun holiday food is the best!
