Also called Oreo truffles, these little no bake balls are not only incredibly easy, but they are addictingly delicious. You need a little bit of patience while dipping the balls, but this would even be a fun recipe to make with kids!
This candy recipe seems to be most popular around Christmas, maybe because they are perfect for cookie exchanges or bringing to Christmas parties. But really, they are a delicious treat year round!
Ingredients
- Oreos: I like to buy a family size package of Oreos. That way you’ll for sure have enough Oreos (the regular packages seem to just be getting smaller and smaller.) Plus I like to have an extra cookie or two to crumble and put on top some of the Oreo truffles.
- Cream Cheese: Since this is an indulgent treat, I recommend only using full fat cream cheese.
- Melting Wafers: I like to use melting wafers for this recipe instead of chocolate bars because first, the wafers are way easier to work with, especially for beginners. They melt easy and they coat easily. And you don’t have to worry about over cooking the chocolate as much as you do with regular chocolate. But if you do choose to use regular chocolate, you’ll want to add in some vegetable oil or melted coconut oil.
How to Make Oreo Balls
Start by crushing your Oreos. I think this is easiest in a food processor. You could also use a blender. You wan the crumbs very fine, so this might be too hard to do by hand. And no need to remove the filling – it gets mixed right in!
In another bowl, beat the cream cheese until it is light and smooth.
Stir in the Oreo crumbs. You want to stir this all together until it is fully mixed.
Use a 1-tablespoon cookie scoop to make even balls of the mixture, and place on a parchment covered baking sheet. Transfer this to the freezer for 15 minutes.
Melt the wafers according to the package directions. I think this is easiest (for both melting and dipping) to do this in a glass measuring cup.
Take the balls from the freezer. Working with one at a time, drop it in the chocolate, making sure to coat it completely, then let any excess chocolate drip off. Transfer this back to the baking sheet.
Tips and Tricks
- You need to make sure to freeze the balls for 15 minutes before dipping them in chocolate. If they aren’t frozen, they fall apart a lot easier while dipping. If they do start to fall apart, pop them back into the freezer for a few minutes.
- I like to use a fork to hold the truffle while dipping. The tines of the fork allow the excess chocolate to drip off. Then I will use another fork or a spatula to gently push the truffle from the fork onto the parchment paper. If some of the chocolate gets removed, just use the spatula to smooth it over.
- You can get creative with decorating these! I like to use some of the excess chocolate on some and then a crumbled Oreo on some. But you can use holiday sprinkles, crushed candy canes, or chopped nuts. If you are adding something to the top, make sure and add it right as the balls get placed on the parchment. Otherwise the chocolate will harden and the topping won’t stick.
- If you are using white chocolate melts, be aware that it may start to have some black speckles as you go because you will lose tiny bits of the Oreos in the chocolate. I just decorate those with the Oreo crumbs and then it’s no big deal.
Storage Instructions
These Oreo balls need to be stored in the refrigerator. Place them in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks. We like to eat them straight from the refrigerator, you you can also leave them out for a little bit to take the chill off, if desired. But they will get soft the longer they sit.
You can also freeze Oreo balls. Place in an airtight container and freeze for up to 2 months.

Oreo Balls (Oreo Truffles)
Ingredients
- 36 Oreo cookies*
- 8 oz cream cheese softened
- About 12 oz chocolate or white chocolate melting wafers or a mix of both
Instructions
- Place the Oreos in a food processor or blender. (No need to remove the cream!) Process until you have fine crumbs.
- Place the cream cheese in a large bowl and beat with a hand mixer until light and creamy. Add the Oreo crumbs and stir together with a spatula until completely combined.
- Using a 1-tablespoon cookie scoop, form the mixture into even balls and place on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Place the balls in the freezer for at least 15 minutes.
- Heat the melting wafers according to the package directions. Remove the Oreo balls from the freezer. Working with one at at time, dip in the chocolate, letting any excess chocolate drip off before placing back on the parchment paper. If adding crumbs or any toppings, add the toppings before the chocolate sets up.
- Continue with the remaining balls and the remaining chocolate. Once finished, transfer the Oreo balls to the refrigerator to set up completely.
- Once set up, store in a covered container in the refrigerator.
