Snickers Salad – a sweet salad with apples, grapes, strawberries and Snickers bars in a sweet, creamy mixture. Serve as a side dish or as a dessert.
If you’ve got some fresh apples on hand, this Snickers Salad is the perfect way to use them up! Or check out all of my apple recipes for even more ideas.
This Snickers Salad has been gracing our table for many, many years now. I know this is not your typical “salad” but trust me when I say that this will be one of the first things on the table to disappear.
This is perfect for taking to a potluck or to a family dinner, and especially for holiday dinners. I love to make it year round, but it is especially good during apple season when apples are sweet and perfect.
What is Snickers Salad
A little more dessert-like than salad-like, this Snickers Salad is a real treat. I thought it was a Utah thing and that everyone in Utah had experienced this salad, but I learned at that church event that there were some people who had never had it before.
This Snicker Salad is a fruit salad with pudding, whipped topping, and of course – Snickers bars. If you think that Snickers in a salad is strange, just try it. I honestly don’t know anyone who doesn’t just love this salad.
Ingredients
There are all kinds of versions of it out there. Some don’t use the pudding mix. Some don’t do the grapes. And my sister adds in the strawberries – and I’ve never seen anyone do strawberries before – but I love them in this salad. This version is my favorite version and the one I go back to every time.
Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix: You’ll want to make sure that you are using an instant pudding mix, and that it is the dry mix, not prepared. You’ll be adding it to milk and Cool Whip – not preparing it according to the package directions.
Milk: I usually use 2%. I would probably steer clear of 1% or skim just so that the mixture is thick enough.
Cool Whip: This is frozen whipped topping. You’ll want it thawed but still refrigerated. You could also use freshly whipped cream, but I think the Cool Whip holds up better and longer.
Apples: The best apples to use are crisp apples. I like to use granny smith apples, but honeycrisp, cortland, or jonagold would all be great choices. My favorite thing to do is get an assortment of apples.
Snickers Candy Bars: I think this is easiest using full sized candy bars, but if you have snack sized on hand, those will work, too. Just make sure to cut them into bite-sized pieces – you don’t want them too big.
Grapes & Strawberries: These are optional, but I really do think they make this recipe stand out from others!

I first tried this at a missionary homecoming. It was a good thing I got some on the first go-round because it was gone in a hurry!

Deborah..this looks great!
My mom used to make all kinds of “salads” with Cool Whip, shredded coconut, fruit, angel food cake, and just throwing things together til it was good and coated.
Snickers + salad = 2 faves of mine 🙂

Is it weird that … one I have never heard of a snickers salad … two I thought that was mayo and snickers at first (need sleep!) and three I am so intrigued I am going downstairs to see if I have all of the ingredients!

A sweet salad seems odd too me. I’d call this a Snickers Ambrosia. It doesn’t have the same alliteration but it’s more descriptive. I’m sure your dish was a success at the pot luck!

For some reason dessert salads like this just don’t happen here in the northeast…I’m not sure why but I think it’s time to bring them over. Show the east coast where it’s at. This sounds delicious!

Oh man, that is totally more dessert to me!

What size Snickers did you use?
Deborah says
Carmen – you will need full sized snickers. I updated the recipe so it’s not so confusing!!

I love the recipe but can you put apples and other fruits in it the nite before or no

My Gram makes something similar to this, but uses only coolwhip, snickers, and green and red apples. It tastes like a caramel apple! YUM! 🙂

Bummer, I was looking for a different salad last night for a work bbq today. I ended up finding an unusual pasta salad (I hope it gets eaten) but this would have been perfect. I live in Utah and have never heard of nor had this salad. I am putting it on my list for the next potluck.

Have you heard of the grape salad? Yum
