This year, I have been trying to completely enjoy and embrace the Christmas season. Not that I don’t normally enjoy it. But let’s be honest. As parents, it is easy to get caught up in the busyness of the season and the pressure to do it all. And let’s not forget that we have normal lives and school and work to worry about as well. I often get so overwhelmed with it all that I end up stressing out and just not doing anything.
So this year, I’m trying to simplify.
For me, simplifying is just kind of taking it back to the basics. Remembering what I loved to do as a kid, and maybe things that I’ve discovered now that I’m an adult, and choosing my favorites. And not stressing about doing every little thing that is out there. I have fond memories as a child – all of us getting in the van on Christmas eve, and driving through neighborhoods looking at the Christmas lights. It was so simple – my mom didn’t even cook that night (it was the one night of the year that I ever remember getting to choose something at the gas station to eat and eating it in the car 😂). We would listen to Christmas music and just marvel over the lights.
So this year, we sat down and made a list of a few “must-do” events. One thing that I wanted more of this year was just sitting down and watching Christmas movies together. At home, in our pjs. Nothing fancy. Just us and the good, classic Christmas movies. That’s what I think makes for a perfect Christmas season.
Along with our simple Christmas activities, we need a simple Christmas snack. And this Sweet and Salty Christmas Mix is the winner this year. I can never get enough of the sweet and salty combination, and luckily, my whole family loves it, too. This mix takes a whole 10 minutes to put together, and it’s perfect for snacking while you watch those Christmas movies. Or while you drive through the Christmas lights. Or even put it in a bag and take it along as you go Christmas caroling. This is truly the perfect holiday snack!
I hope you are finding fun ways to simplify and enjoy the holiday season!!

I made this for the holidays. I bagged up in individual bags for my grandkids and drop it off. I know it will be a hit! My grandsons are nut allergic so I can make some separate for them!
Kayla says
Hello, my son is allergic to peanuts what can I substitute for them?
Deborah says
I would just omit the peanuts.

Hi, I made your Sweet and Salty Xmas mix but it didn’t look Ike the photo of your mix. I wanted to check that you put all the ingredients in a large bowl and pour the melted candy in and stirred? Then spread out on wax paper and added sprinkles. Your recipe also said sprinkle with reserved candy coated chocolates on top….what reserved candy?
Deborah says
Yep – mix it together, then pour the melted coating over the mix. You only mix in 3/4 of the candy coated chocolates, then you will sprinkle the remaining 1/4 of the chocolates over the top.
